John Blanchard would go to the library to look at the shelves of books on different subjects. He was a very cultured man. On one occasion, while on his usual search for books, he found one that caught his attention — not because of its content, but because of the notes written in pencil. He perceived a reflective mind, a great heart, and a sensitive soul in those notes. On the back cover was the name of the book’s previous owner, “Holliz Meiner.”
Something gave him an uncontrollable urge, and with much time and effort, he set out to find her. It seemed impossible, but after a long time, he found her address in New York and sent her a letter. He introduced himself and invited her to correspond with him.
But the next day, John was sent to serve across the ocean. This was during the time of World War II. For 13 months, they exchanged many letters and got to know each other. Those letters were seeds falling on fertile hearts, and a beautiful romance began to blossom.
Several times, he asked her to send him a photo, to which she repeatedly responded that if he was truly interested, her appearance shouldn’t matter. She emphasized, “I want you to know my heart, my soul; the rest doesn’t matter.” After that year, John was discharged. He prepared for his return, arranging their first meeting. It would be at 7:00 in the evening…
